Mouth freshener/mukhwas made with mango seeds a perfect after meal snack and a good digestive aid
So it is the mango season. And if you are a mango fan like me then you must be getting lots and lots of mangoes in your house. We use the mangoes to make pulp, eat them fresh or make mango milk shake. However the seeds are generally thrown away.
Have you ever thought of what you could possibly do with so many left over seeds from these mangoes. Well, here is a perfect recipe of a mouth freshener made with mango seeds. I have learned this recipe from my mother in law. It is the perfect example of best from waste. It completely justifies the popular saying "Aam ke Aam, Guthlio ke Daam" :)
Before you start making this Mukhwas (month freshener) please collect enough mango seeds. You will lots of guthlis to make small quantity of month freshener.
You can make the Mukhwas in 2 versions. Either by cutting the seeds into pieces or grating them. In this recipe I have done the later.
Tips for making mango seed mouth freshener
- You have to dry the mango seeds/guthlifor atleast 10-15 days
- Never break the guthli flat, always keep it standing while breaking so that you get full seeds from inside
- You can grate the guthli or make small pieces
- We use rock salt in this mukhwas so be careful while adding normal salt
- If you want make mukhwas in pieces then you need not worry about the seed breaking from inside
- Drying the seeds in sun is the best, but in countries where there is not enough sunlight you can dry it in your house too.
So lets proceed step by step for making Mango seed mouth freshener
Collect the guthlis and allow them to dry for 10-15 days
Hold the guthli as shown in the picture and hit on the edges with the help of pestle. Doing this will give you full seeds. If you want to cut the seeds into pieces you need not worry about breaking them.

Now pressure cook the seeds for 3 whistles on a medium flame
Strain the seeds allow them to cool and grate them
Now again completely air dry the grated seeds for 1 day
Heat very little oil in a pan and roast the grated seeds. Even if you are making pieces you will still have to dry roast
Add very little normal salt and rock salt
Allow it to cool and you can store it in air tight container. It can easily be stored for long
Impress your guests by serving this unique mouth freshener, which also works wonders as a digestive aid too.

Instructions
