A popular curry made with buttermilk during fasting like ekadashi, ram navami, janmashtami , also known as "chaas wadu saak"

Fasting rules vary from house to house. Fasting is observed so that the food we consume is light and healthy. General fasting ingredients include singhara atta, milk, yogurt, fresh fruits, potatoes, peanuts,a few spices etc.

Today I am going to share a unique curry made with buttermilk and potatoes, which we usually eat during fasts. Ingredients required for this curry are very basic and easily available in your house.

Buttermilk curry or Chaas Wadu Shaak is generally made during Ram Navmi, Janmashtami and Ekadasi. Along with this sabzi we also make sabudana khichdi, rajigra puri, shrikhand, mari wadu shaak(peppered potatoes), green coriander chutney and buttermilk. A complete fasting thali.

For making Chaas Wadu Shaak we need to do a few preparations

First step. Boil, peel and mash a few potatoes

Second step. Deep fry peanuts and keep it aside

So lets proceed step by step for making buttermilk curry

Heat oil in a thick deep bottom vessel

Add cumin seeds an allow them crackle

Now add asafoetida and red chilli powder.(In this step red chilli power is completely optional, also you can add more or less according to your taste)

Now lower the flame and add buttermilk

Stir the buttermilk for 1 minute and then add some lemon juice

Continuously keep stirring the buttermilk on low flame otherwise it will splutter

Add sugar and salt to taste

When the buttermilk comes to boil add the boiled and mashed potatoes
