Churma Ladoo
Ladoo/Ladva is made during many different gujarati occasions. Churma Ladoo/Ladva is a famous sweet in gujarati as well as rajasthani cuisine. The main ingredients are wheat flour, desi ghee and jaggery. We make Churma Ladoo during Ganesh Chauth(Ganesh Chaturthi). Its a tradition we have been practicing from many years. First my grandmother in law(GIL) use to make then she taught my MIL and she taught me. We make Churma Ladoo serve it to lord ganesh and take blessings from him. Its been 6 years now from the time I started making Churma Na Ladva on the special occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. So thought of sharing the recipe. So lets proceed step by step.

Churma Ladoo is made with coarsely grounded bhakri powder. So first lets knead the dough and make bhakri(wheat flour flat bread).

The wheat flour we use regularly for making chapati is very finely grinded. For making Churma Ladoo/Ladva we require coarsely grounded wheat flour.

In a vessel sieve one big bowl of wheat flour. Add 1 tablespoon ghee or 4 tablespoon oil and knead the dough with the help of little water. The dough should be stiffer then chapati.

Divide the dough into lemon size balls.

Now roll it into a flat bread. With the help of belan put holes as shown in the picture below.

Bhakri and Bajra Roti are made on a clay tawa. But if you don't have clay tawa you can use the normal non stick tawa. Heat the tawa and on medium flame roast the bhakri.

Cook the bhakri with a help of muslin cloth till the  bhakri turn golden brown and crispy like biscuit. In the below pic you can see how the bhakris are brown in colour and crispy.

After the bhakris cool. Cut the bhakri into small pieces.

Now in a grinder add the pieces of bhakri and grind it to a coarse mixture to make a coarse Churma powder.

Now heat one cup ghee in a thick bottom vessel. After the ghee is melted on a medium flame add jaggery. Continuously stir till the jaggery melts.

Add the above melted ghee and jaggery to the coarsely grounded bhakri powder. Also add nutmeg powder.

Mix all the ingredients well and allow it to cool to room temperature.

Divide the mixture into small portions. With the help of hand by pressing gently make round shape.

Just sprinkle a few poppy seeds/khuskhus on each Ladoo.

Our Churma Ladoo/Churma Ladva is ready. Serve the ladoos to lord ganesh. Happy Ganesh Chaturthi Everyone!!
