Unknown | Friday, August 15, 2014 |
Papaya Sambharo
We include Papaya in our daily diet due to its various health benefits through different means. We use papaya to make salad, chutney, sambharo etc. Today I am sharing with you all the recipe of papaya sambharo. Sambharo is a stir fried and spicy indian salad. Sambharo is a very common side dish made in gujarati household during lunch time. Sambharas are made with cabbage, tindora(ivy gourd), papaya etc. Papaya Sambharo is one common sambharo made at our home. In this papaya sambharo recipe I have added besan/gram flour. The papaya sambharo is yellowish in colour and a mild spicy side dish. So lets proceed step by step.

We just require a 5 minute pre preparation before we start making Papaya Sambharo.

Take a nice green raw papaya and wash it.

Cut it into half length wise. This will allow you too remove seeds easily from inside the papaya.

Remove all the seeds and the skin of the between of papaya.

Now peel the skin of papaya and cut them into small pieces as shown below in picture. A sambharo is incomplete without a green chillies so cut the green chillies and keep aside. Our all the pre preparations are done.

Now for making the papaya sambharo heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

After they crackle add the cut papaya and chillies.

Add turmeric powder, a little red chilli powder and salt.

Mix all the ingredients well and add 2-3 tablespoons of water. Cover the lid and cook on a low flame till the papaya is cooked and tender. Occasionally keep stirring.

After the papaya is cooked and tender add sugar and lime juice.

Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes. Now add 1 tablespoon besan(gram flour)

Mix besan well to the cooked papaya and cook again for a minute.

Our Payapa Sambharo is ready.

  1. We have used a little more oil in this recipe of sambharo then other sambharo recipes because adding gram flour will soak all the oil.
  2. Sambharo are always yellowish in colour so for spiciness just add a little red chilli powder and more fresh green chillies.
  3. You can make this sambharo even by not adding gram flour if you prefer.
  4. Green raw papaya is almost tasteless so we add sugar and lime juice to it.
