Recipe of Vegetable Pizza | How to make Vegetable Pizza

Pizza is a traditional Italian dish that is loved by almost everyone. The good old margherita is a life saver when you are in an unfamiliar country or place wondering what to eat. Pizza is extremely popular for parties, with kids and while watching football or cricket matches. Always wished I could make Vegetable Pizza at home and then I came across this recipe from Vah chef. His video really encouraged me to try this dish at home completely from scratch. It gives a great satisfying feeling when the hot pizza comes out of the oven. You can use any topings of your choice. The combination of veggies and cheese gives a lovely taste. So lets proceed step by step.


STEPS TO PREPARE THE DOUGH

To prepare our Pizza we first need to prepare the dough for the base. In a small bowl take 1 cup (approximately 200 ml) lukewarm water. Add 5 grams of yeast, little salt and sugar and 1 cup maida (Plain Flour). Mix well and keep aside for 15 minutes.
 
In another bowl take 3 cups of maida and add 3 tablespoons of olive oil.
 

Start kneading it to a soft dough with hand by adding the fermented mix of yeast and maida we prepared earlier.
 
After the dough is prepared use little olive oil to smooth up the surface. Now cover the bowl with a wet cloth and leave in a warm place for 1 hour for fermentation.
 
The dough will become double in size after 1 hour. Now press the dough thoroughly and nicely with hand to remove the air bubbles completely and again cover with wet cloth and allow to ferment for another 30 minutes.
 
Again remove the excess air by pressing the dough thoroughly with hand. The dough for our pizza is now ready.
 

STEPS TO PREPARE THE PIZZA SAUCE

Next step is to prepare the pizza sauce. Blanch (Boil and peal the skin) 3 large ripe and red tomatoes. Now cut the tomatoes in small cubes.
 
Now heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a non stick pan. Add chopped onions, chopped garlic and chopped green chillies.
 
Allow the onions, garlic and green chillies to fry for 5 minutes on low flame. Now add the chopped tomatoes, salt, pepper powder and herbs (basil, oregano mix).
 
Allow the sauce to cook on low flame for at least 20 minutes. Add very little water only if the sauce thickens to much. 
 
Our homemade pizza sauce is now ready.
 

STEPS TO PREPARE THE TOPPINGS

Next step is to prepare the toppings. You can use many variety of toppings in your vegetarian pizza like paneer (cottage cheese), corn, capsicum, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, broccoli or mashrooms. The topings that I have used today are onions, capsicum, corn and pineapple.
 
Cut the onion into rings, capsicum into long slices and pineapple into small cubes. Boil the corn for 10 minutes and grate the corn kernels. Mix everything in a bowl with little salt, olive oil, pepper powder and herbs. The toping mixture is now ready.
 

ASSEMBLING AND BAKING THE PIZZA

Relax. All the preparatory activities are done now :). Time to bake our pizza. Outside Pizza is made on a Pizza stove. However we are going to use a standard baking oven. Preheat the oven at 200 degrees while we prepare our pizza.
 
Take a medium size shallow bottom non stick pan or pizza tray and sprinkle some dry maida (flour) on it. Take half of the pizza dough and spread a thin even layer of dough on the pan. With the dough we have we will make 2 medium size pizzas.
 
Now put an aluminium foil on the oven tray and transfer the pizza base on the oven tray. You can also heat the base slightly on stove in the pan before placing it on the oven tray. Using a fork make holes in the base like shown below. This would allow the air to escape and prevent the pizza from becoming too fluffy.
 
Now spread the home made pizza sauce evenly on the base except the corner. Next add the layer of toppings that we prepared earlier.
 
Now put a layer of grated cheese on the pizza covering the entire base and all the veggies except the corner. Sprinke some olive oil on the pizza and also apply little olive oil with hand on the corner of the base.
 
Allow the pizza to bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes till the cheese melts completely and turns golden brown. Periodically check the oven to make sure the pizza does not burn.
 
Our Vegetable Pizza is ready. Allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes, cut into 6 triangular pieces and transfer on a serving plate.
 
Enjoy your home made pizza with a soft drink or wine.

For the Dough
  • 4 cups Maida (Plain Flour)

  • 1/4th tablespoon Sugar

For the Pizza Sauce

  • 1 Onion
  • 3 Garlic Cloves
  • 2-3 Green Chillies
  • 1/4th tablespoon Pepper Powder
  • 1/4th tablespoon Herbs
  • Salt to Taste
For the Toppings
  • 1 Onion
  • 1/2 Capsicum
  • 1/2 cob Corn
  • 1/4th Pineapple
  • 250 grams Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1/2 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1/4th tablespoon Pepper Powder
  • 1/4th tablespoon Herbs
  • Salt to Taste
INSTRUCTIONS
