Recipe of Bharva Bhindi | How to Make Bhindi Masala

Unknown | Wednesday, May 28, 2014 |
Bharva Bhindi or Bhindi Masala is a very common dish made during lunch. There are many ways of preparing Bhindi(Ladyfinger). This recipe of Bhindi Masala is a semi dry dish and can be served as main or side dish. This recipe has no onions and garlic and yet tastes so yummy. The main masala for this dish is coriander powder. I have sliced the Bhindi in between and stuffed it with indian spices which makes the dish very tasty. For stuffing the Bhindi with indian spices you can even add shredded coconut powder and methi leaves it tastes great. But as for now I have not added coconut powder or methi leaves. This is the Bhindi recipe which I often make at home. Bhindi masala tastes great with hot phulkas. So lets proceed step by step.

Wash the Bhindi and wipe it with a cloth because water makes it sticky or you can allow it to dry by itself.

Remove the head and base of Bhindi and slice it from between.

For making Bharva Bhindi you require bhindi, masalas, tomato and coriander leaves.Making the masala is very easy and no fuss. In a plate add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, oil, salt and coriander leaves. Mix it well and the stuffing is ready. You can even add shredded coconut powder and methi leaves also.

Stuff the prepared masala in the sliced Bhindi with the help of your hand. Make sure Bhindi doesn't break into two parts. Fill all the sliced bhindis and just leave little masala we will use it while cooking.

In a non stick pan heat oil and add mustard seeds.

After they crackle add the stuffed bhindi turn it gently and saute it for a minute.

Now add the left over masala and stir.

Now add the chopped tomatoes and cook the bhindi. Cover the pan with a lid and cook on low flame. Ensure you occasionally stir the Bhindi in between or else it will burn. Cook till the Bhindi becomes tender.

Masala Bhindi is ready. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with phulkas.
